Superbowl
The Superbowl is on at work. Hearing lots of Arcade Fire. The CMs are shitty this year. And why do they all have beavers in them?

i never before realized how important security in my situation was to me before now. my roommates will be leaving the country soon; one in the middle of next month, the other at the end of april. on top of that, the lease on our apartment is up before the end of the semester. i don't know if this could have come at a worse time.
finding an apartment in tokyo is not easy for a foreigner. rent is expensive and there are often many fees involved, usually amounting to a few months rent up front. i'm not sure that i want to find new roommates. not just to avoid another situation like this, but also because i'm not comfortable living with someone i don't know. either way, i'll have to find money to move. that's really the only barrier.
if things get bad and i can't find money, i'm stuck going back to the states. but what's the point? my life is here. my job, my friends... this is home. and i'll still have to find some place to live temporarily while i take final exams since i can't stay in this apartment. i'll have to sell all of my stuff. and i'll still have to find around $1200 for a plane ticket. that's money i could use to move to a new place. and then what happens if i go back? i don't know anyone in florida. i've never been there. and if i can't find money to finish school here, it's the same situation in the states. so i'll be stuck leaving the place i love, moving to a places i've never been and have no interest in going to, straddled with mountains of debt and unable to fund the rest of my education. i've never been more fearful in my entire life than i am right now.

Yesterday afternoon I had some free time so I headed over to the Ota-ku ward office (大田区役所) to renew my foreign resident registration card (外国人登録証) and national health insurance (国民健康保険). After spending about five minutes at each counter, I was on my way home. I always surprised at how fast and efficient. Makes me wonder how they always fuck it up so bad at the DMV in the states. I was thinking that the problem might be related to the number of offices per capita, but cccording to Wikipedia the population of Las Vegas (city, not metro) is about 120,000 people less than that of Ota-ku. There's only one ward office in Ota-ku, but Vegas has 3 DMV offices. Seriously, what the fuck?

Lawyers have presented their final arguments in the trial of Alan Ellis. The prosecution slammed the ex-OiNK admin, saying that the site was set up with dishonest and profiteering intentions right from the start. The defense tore into IFPI and countered by calling Ellis an innovator with talents to be nurtured. Today the jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty, and Ellis walked free.
A few days old, but good news is good news.

If you are ever lucky enough to watch a man take a shit on a public floor, I strongly urge you to do so. My father recently watched a man take a shit on the casino floor at the Mohegan Sun and every time he retells the story I am overcome with envy as I can see the rapture in his eyes and hear the adamant delight in his voice from witnessing such a heinous event.
Today is a great day for quotes.
